Politics: Biblical Reasons not to Support Trump

Something that it seems that people do not understand is that Trump is not Christian. He does not even pretend to have a Christian faith. Yet so many people who either are Christian or just think that they are, think that they should or even have to support him. He is not some sort of huge Messiah meant to save the world. In fact, the bible has a lot to say that I think would be one great example after another on why you shouldn’t support Trump.

Before I continue, note that this will probably not contain every possible example that exists in the bible that supports my side as to why Trump shouldn’t be supported by those who claim to hold a Christian faith. Even if you hold just a Jewish faith, I’ve included verses from Proverbs, but could not easily find other books to share from under the time crunch I’m under. Now as for the rest of this post, I will post a verse and then do a paragraph explaining why Trump is not a good fit based on this verse. Here goes:

Proverbs 9:12b: if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

Trump enjoys mocking people over and over again. Remember the disabled reporter? Think about all of his opponents who he enjoys childish name calling too. He mocks a lot so we can only hope that the second part will apply to him in the future.

Proverbs 12:22: The Lord detest lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.

It is a well known fact that Trump lies. He lies more than a person in a coma. You’d think that this alone would be the main reason that people shouldn’t support Trump. I will even get to a lot more verses about lying in case just one doesn’t leave you convinced.

Proverbs 13:3: He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.

Yeah, Trump has not been known to watch what he says and often goes on huge, fiery rants at most times for almost any reason even when he’s known to be wrong about whatever it is he is on a rant about. There’s a reason that wrath is considered one of the seven deadly sins.

Proverbs 13:5: The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace.

This one should be considered self explanatory to most people. King Solomon had wisdom in life, more so than possibly anyone else who has ever lived (excluding Jesus). How can people think that Trump isn’t just bringing shame and disgrace to people with his ways?

Proverbs 18:2: A fool finds no pleasure in understanding, but delights in airing his own opinions.

Time after time and tweet after tweet, Trump has continued talking over and over again about anything and everything he has ever cared about. Sadly, I myself am guilty about airing my own opinions through my Madam Secretary blog where I often talk about politics, more so that this own blog. But I do like to think that I’m better at the first part: understanding. Still, there is no way that Trump seeks to understand people that don’t line up with his own beliefs.

Proverbs 22:24 and 25: Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.

Here we find what might be the main problem that Trump supporters have. He is very easily angered and many of his supporters get angry themselves. In fact, if I bring up stuff like this to them, then I might get the exact response of angry outbursts that I would expect.

Proverbs 28:6: Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a rich man whose ways are perverse.

Again, we find one that is very self explanatory. I plan to do a future post in one of my blogs on all the dangerous myths about poor people. But this verse is more about the follies that apply to Trump in some cases. He has very mean ways with how he goes about things in life. This is just one of many verses on the dangers posed by rich people.

There are two things to note before I continue. One is that I’m now done quoting parts of the Old Testament to back up my beliefs on this. The second is that I might be biased against some of the rich people of the world. I know that not all of them are bad. It just happens that a lot of them are like Trump and most of them are not like, say, Bill Gates.

Mark 10:23b: How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!

Jesus himself said this and the person he was talking about is widely believed to have given away his riches like Christ suggested. This isn’t meant to be a criticism of all rich people (in my mind, at least), but it does speak against some of their struggles in this world against the next life that they could have after they die.

John 8:44b and 45: …there is no truth in him. When [Satan] lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me!

One of the most obvious examples of Satan’s powers is that he lies. Jesus is known for saying the truth. That is why he was telling others this fact right here. If Satan is the father of lies, then it makes you wonder why one would associate with a liar like Trump. Now keep in mind, I am not trying to say that Trump is Satan. I’m just pointing out just one similarity between them.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10: Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral not idolaters nor adulterers... nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

So many of these two verses apply to Trump and I took out what I felt was not relevant for this post. Trump has been divorced twice and he is known for cheating. He is greedy for sure and he sure likes to slander people, depending on how you define that word. And he has swindled a good chunk of the American people into thinking that he’s a good person. What is the last part of this verse again?

! Corinthians 15:33: Do not be misled: “Bad Company corrupts good character.”

This probably explains why so many of the good people that I know seem to lose all common sense when it comes to their defense of Trump. The verse here makes it quite clear. So I’m not even sure if this is a reason not to support Trump or just an explanation as to what is going wrong with all your family and friends as to why they are stuck in their support of him.

Ephesians: 5:5: For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person- such a man is an idolater- has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Verse after verse just seems to support the idea that Trump is not going to heaven. There is so much law in both parts of the bible and it tells you how to clearly live a godly life. Trump is not anywhere close to doing this. He is all three of those things.

Colossians 2:1-4: (emphasis on just the last verse): I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by find-sounding arguments.

I’m not even sure if Trump had made fine-sounding arguments or not, but it sure seems like a lot of people are deceived by him. I will tell you that the rest of the verse before it might have a lot more about why I felt it was good to include it here. Like I said before, I’m pressed for time as I usually am.

1 Timothy 6:10: For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

One of the bible’s most often quoted verses, although we typically here it in a slightly different way than the way it is written here. Trump loves money a lot and often seems to do anything and everything to get more money. This leads to even more evil going on.

2 Timothy 3:2-6: People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, no lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

Perhaps the most con filled section in what I’ve brought up this whole post, read through all of them and you will find very few of them that don’t apply to Trump. The last part of the verse is the most important. You should have nothing to do with people like this.

James 1:26: If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

Here’s yet another one that explains it quite well. Trump does not keep a tight rein on his tongue and is often going on huge rants against anyone and everyone he thinks wronged him, calling each and every investigation into him a witch hunt while he should just let it run its course. We do not know if any of them will hit dead ends like the Russia one did.

Revelation 21:8: …the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars- their place will be in the feiry lake of burning sulfur...

The bible makes it quite clear: all liars are going to hell. There’s a reason that I’m bringing this up more than others. Trump is a habitual liar and even Nixon would call it obsessive. He is also sexually immoral and can be quite cowardly at times as well. What is even wrong with him?

That should more than sum up all of the reasons that those who would call themselves Christian should not ever be supportive of Trump. Like I said, this probably doesn’t even cover all of what the bible would state on all of his flaws. But if you know someone who believe that Trump is a good example of the Christian faith or even believed it yourself, I can only hope that you are now certain of what the bible says about why Trump shouldn’t be supported.
