Continuing the reviews I’ve been doing of each
season of The Good Wife, it is now time that I write a review of the third
season. This was the first season to air on the new night of Sunday where it
stayed for the rest of its run. Let’s delve into more of this season, shall we?
Season 3 overview: This season introduced us to
the storyline that had Will disbarred from the bench for a while. Grace started
her connections to Christianity this season, although she wasn’t portrayed in
the best way. Colin Sweeny was reintroduced in this season and had two episodes
about him. There were two associates that competed for a job at Alicia’s firm.
Cary is largely an adversary that is often faced in court. We get to the start
of Peter’s run for governor towards the end of this season.
How this season was different than others: We
got to the more human side of the cases in this season. Most of the cases were
unrelated to each other while other parts of the season were linked such as
character development and other things like that. Of course, most of their
seasons were like that, actually.
What made it good: Most of the character
development was good and went in good places in the end. We saw some of the
beginning of the Will and Alicia romance. It did not seem like any characters
outside of Cary were made bad in the edit.
What made it bad: A lot of the plots went
nowhere or weren’t resolved. For instance, the first episode of the season had
a case that I don’t think was ever finished in the whole rest of the show. I
hated Cary this season and I don’t think that I was meant to hate him in the
end. The plot of Will getting disbarred seemed too strange, especially with the
character still on the show on a regular basis instead of on a break. This
might have been the start of their annoyingly wrong views on Christianity.
More thoughts: With this season kind of
scattered all over the place, it is hard to say for sure what was the best part
of it. I still don’t think that it was the worst season by any means and it is
hard to think of some of what happened as being truly worthless in the long run
of the show.
Well, those are my thoughts on this season. If
you wait long enough this month, there will be a surprise that you may or may
not like, the likes of which have been in other blog posts of mine in other
blogs. Stay tuned to see what it is. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
