Politics: The Age of Cowardice in the Partisan GOP of Today

There is always one. Well, at least one. There is always one person who cites partisanship as the reason why they can’t stay in office and most retire. These are always supposedly moderate Republicans who are mostly all talk and no action who really just did maybe the one notable thing against Trump and not much else.

It seems that ever since Trump took office in 2016, at least one person does barely anything, is seen as a moderate by the media, is labeled anti-Trump, and throws their hands up in the air to just quit their way out of office by not trying to fix the broken system that is there.

The most notorious of these people in my mind was Jeff Flake. He did little to nothing against Trump and yet was praised by some for his anti-Trump ways. Time even ran an article on him that I didn’t bother to read. It said that his ways cost him his office, but that wasn’t the case at all. He decided to retire long before the primary even happened so he couldn’t be accurately said to be losing his office because of Trump. And he did jack shit against Trump too. Nothing ever changed because of anything Flake said or did. He did nothing except maybe say some things that Trump did was bad, but overall not helping him in any way.

I thought that I could have respect for the people who actually voted to impeach Trump when they had an unprecendanted second shot at it. But then one of them basically just said that they were going to retire because things were “too partisan” for them to do any real good anymore. It won’t be too long because all of them are gone and that’s if many are even left right now in the first place. It’s pathetic, really.

How many will jump on this cowardly ride this cycle? I have no idea. I guess that we’ll just have to wait and see who all will quit like the cowards that they are and probably leave their seats open to either partisan hacks of the GOP or potentially good Democrats. At least if we get some more liberals, they can hopefully be good ones. It won’t always be the case, but is better than the outgoing guys (since they are always guys) for sure.
