Politics: So Now They Care about Sex Crimes?

If you have been paying any attention to the Ketanji Brown Jackson Supreme Court nomination hearing, then you might have noticed that Republicans think that she has been too lenient on sentencing child pornography offenders. There have been plenty of other things of interest in the hearings as well. But this is what I’m writing a post about. Because after all that happened with the Kavanaugh hearings, it seems weird that only now do Republicans care about sex crimes. Only when it is a liberal judge facing hearings do they think consequences are needed against those accused of it.

Let’s start with the more recent hearings relating to Ketanji. She served on the United States Sentencing Committee. The Republicans have made it seem like she was giving sentences below the sentencing guideline or not having the accused faced mandatory minimums. But what they won’t tell you is that these sentences are not uncommonly lenient and nearly all of the others on the committee supported these decisions. And as she has pointed out herself in the hearings, some of this was done based on a law change that Congress made. Of course those in Congress wouldn’t like their own potential mistakes being brought back to them.

Why is this important and hypocritical? Well, as already stated, things were way different in their minds when it related to the Kavanaugh hearings. People still seek to discredit Christine Blasey Ford. They wonder why she never came forward sooner while also doing everything they can to make her seem like a liar who cannot possibly be telling the truth. But she is brave for not just getting on a flight despite her fear of flying but also facing the man she accused on national TV in front of many people to see.

I’ll point this out to anyone just blindly convinced that these allegiations were out to ruin the now justice Kavanaugh: if they wanted to ruin his reputation, why did people hate him BEFORE we knew of these allegations against him? You would have to have a good reputation already for these to mean anything.

There are a lot of things that will never make sense regarding Kavanaugh. But what does make sense is the eternal Karen “victimhood” that the right loves to claim. If they are ever accused of anything bad, they are the victims. And for the one person who doesn’t know what a Karen is, this will explain it to you.

It makes no sense that a majority of polled Republicans think that if the accusations against Kavanaugh are true, that it shouldn’t even matter and he should still be confirmed like he was. So if someone tries to rape someone, that shouldn’t matter? Are you sure about that? There was an ethics complaint against Kavanaugh, but it was dropped. It wasn’t because they didn’t find anything. Indeed, we’ll never know if they would have. They just thought that he had too high a job in order for the investigation to work.

Of course, this makes no sense in comparsion to Ketanji Brown Jackson. Suddenly, the right thinks that they can care about sex crimes and this doesn’t contradict their opinion regarding Kavanaugh. She isn’t even accused of any sex crime herself. They just think that she offered too little a sentence to those accused of one. As for Kavanaugh, they jump through hoops as they defend his accusations and seem to have no reservations with him being on the court himself with him having possibly committed sex crimes. As usual, they don’t care about the same thing or something even worse when a Republican might have done it.
