Politics: We’re Taking it to The Supreme Court

A new phrase has emerged in the US political vernacular. It seems that some in the Republican Party are now loving to pass controversial laws and insisting that these laws will stand with the phrase, “We’re taking it to the Supreme Court.” This phrase is not, actually, a good one. Why are they saying this? Well, it is quite clear that it is to rally their base and insist that all of this is good and is certain to stand after these certain legal challenges. But it is a very flawed phrase. This blog post will point out why for those who don’t already know.

Now as it is already known that Republicans love stirring up their base. This relates to many things of generic phrases that don’t make sense to most people. But I guess that Republicans are drunk with power and want to remind us that they’ve had control of the courts since the 1970s. And they think that the courts will go along with any horrible law that they make.

One can only hope that this won’t work. I don’t think that it will. Even with 6 conservative justices on the court, one would only hope that this line of thinking isn’t something that would work. While the court has ruled against the voting rights that would be at stake if the cases at hand make it to the court, they probably wouldn’t like being used all the time as people who just want to randomly always agree with whatever the Republican part of the legislative branch would want them to side with.

Case in point: Donald Trump. He probably thought that he had a slam dunk case when it came to his attempts to overturn the election in 2020. But the Supreme Court refused to hear it. Even though he used the phrase now popular with conservatives, they wouldn’t just go willy nilly with whatever changes he wanted them to. Plus, they should know better after the last time that they decided to hear a case on a presidential election.

Still, this phrase probably isn’t going anywhere any time soon. They are going to keep saying it as a way of justifying whatever horrible laws they pass. And we can only hope that if it does wind up before the Supreme Court, that the Republicans are handed the loss that they do so desperately deserve to have.
