There isn’t much reason to say why I’m reviewing different movies for this blog and when. All that you need to know is that there is some connection, possibly minor or contrived in some way, is why I am reviewing a movie that I either have or am able to see in some way. Today, we get a movie that had a minor cameo from someone from The Good Wife so I’ll review it now.
We begin with a storm approaching earth. The Great Gonzo is approaching the ark, wanting to board before the flood. He doesn’t know what species he is. He is told that he is doomed since there is only one of him and given an umbrella. He doesn’t want to be alone.
He is revealed to be having a nightmare and in his terror waking up, accidently knocks Rizzo out of the window. He rescues Rizzo and talks to him some about the dream. All of the Muppets, at least the ones that are relevant to this movie, wake up in a big house that they all live together in. Miss Piggy goes off to her job while Gonzo doesn’t like being alone, even cancelling one of his daredevil acts. While he eats his cereal, he sees a message that says, “Watch the sky.” Rizzo doesn’t notice this. Later, the message says, “R u there?”
We switch to C.O.V.N.E.T., a top secret national security facility. They are investigating the threat of alien attack disguised as a cement factory. I wonder if Jimmy Hoffa worked here. They are convinced that communications not of his earth have appeared, although noticing messages saying “R u there?” One says “R u three?” One of the officials isn’t sure this is real, thinking that the photos are doctored. But this has to be relevant to the plot of the movie, right?
Gonzo waits on the roof at night for a message. He gets struck by lightning. After this happens, he gets a message from two cosmic fish, being told to mow the lawn with a letter of response. He goes inside and tells others about this, electrocuting Rizzo causing his hands of cards to burn away. People think that he is crazy. Back at the government agency, they see Gonzo’s message: I am here.
Pepe tricks Gonzo into building a jocose by pretending to be an alien. There is then a party of sorts, but the aliens don’t show up. While others watch alien contact live the next day, Gonzo listens to the show, thinking that it is an alien broadcast instead. He goes off to the studio using his lawnmower as a vehicle in order to get there, wearing foil that Dr. Honeydew made it seem like would help this contact.
Miss Piggy gets to go on air when the regular host winds up stuck at the airport. Gonzo winds up there and says the crazy story about how his breakfast cereal brought the cosmic fish and proved that he is an alien. Miss Piggy interviews him and says that he’s here. The government operative wants him here.
While still at the studio, two people in sunglasses and suits show up, one of them being played by Josh Charles. While Gonzo is taken away, he stays behind and fights some with her. After getting pummeled some, she gets the upper hand. He is tied up next where she gets information out of him. People gather at the Muppet house during this time.
Meanwhile, Gonzo and Rizzo are taken to the alien research facility. This man named Edgar, the main government operative, says that he is an ambassador of earth and welcomes the two of them. Miss Piggy says that Gonzo has been kidnapped and his life is in danger. She thinks this is good news since she has a story now.
The Muppets gather in the lab in the basement, told that there is a rubber duck with invisibility spray. They also get a door in a jar and scotch tape in case something tears. He gives a mist to Miss Piggy that will get people to obey her every command. How is that different than usual?
Edgar, or Ed, does some research into Gonzo by examining him. Hulk Hogan shows up and sends Rizzo down to a lab for some tests. There, a bunch of buff rats are there. He realizes that since this place is medical research, that would make them all lab rats. Gonzo is told that they will be doing a brain probe on him which would take his brain away.
The rest of the Muppets continue on to rescue Gonzo, except for Bunsen and Beaker who were left behind at the gas station. A man with the lab rats puts them in a maze since Rizzo said something that he shouldn’t have. He is told to stay away from the red circles. He is then given the choice between cheese and rat poison. He picks the cheese, but gets punched by a boxing glove. Other tasks that he is given are also dangerous.
Gonzo gets a sandwich which channels a voice of the aliens. Gonzo tells the sandwich to meet them at Cape Doom where a lighthouse is. The bear that works for Ed overhears this. We then get to the other Muppets arriving at this place. I wonder how they knew where to go? Ever notice this? The protagonists seem to always find a place where the villains are with little explanation as to how they got there.
Miss Piggy uses her mind control device to get the guard to let them all in the place. Gonzo is told that he and the other rats aren’t getting any cheese. But there is a convenient hole in the prison wall that they can all go through. They use the invisibility spray to get through the place. Fonzi washes his hands and reveals himself to a female guard whom Animal chases away. Gonzo awaits the brain probe. The government bear takes people into a place. Rizzo goes after Gonzo and away from the other rats.
Rizzo finds Gonzo and tries to free him. The other rats help. This is when Ed sees that Gonzo has escaped and is fired from his higher up. The woman guard actually likes Animal, but is told to call her anyways after he rejects her. The Muppets try to escape and use the door in the jar. Only Pepe can get through it, but he lets the others out as well.
Leaving out of the vehicle, Gonzo tells the others to meet his alien brothers at Cape Doom. They then go to the beach together. Miss Piggy tells another man about it, telling him to keep it secret, but he goes and tell the whole crowd of alien crazies about this. The bear tells Ed that they are going to Cape Doom and is told to get the really big gun.
The Muppets arrive at the beach and are greeted by people chanting Gonzo’s name. The people here are gathered to wait for the aliens to arrive. Shelly, the original host of the show, finally reappears and gets into a tussle with Miss Piggy until Shelly is sprayed upon and mind controlled. The people wait and after an hour after the deadline passes, Gonzo says that it’s a no show. As people start to leave, being disappointed in the end results, a giant egg like sphere comes out of the sky. It doesn’t seem like much until a beacon of light come out of it and a big ship comes out of the sky.
One of them wants Gonzo to come forward. They said that they have come a long ways to find him. A lot of creatures that look like him arrive and sing the song Celebrate. Isn’t it amazing that, not only do they know English, they also know a famous Earth song?
After some of the show or whatever this can be called, Ed reappears with his big gun, saying that he is taking Gonzo back in his cement truck. His weapon doesn’t work because the big bear unloaded it. The aliens take Ed away due to what they call his comic instincts. Ed agrees to leave. They want Gonzo to go with them as well. He prepares to leave with them. He says lots of goodbyes. But right as he is about to board the ship, he decides not to join them since this is his home, a common cliché. Ed wants to say some parting words full of space clichés, but doesn’t complete them as they leave quickly. As Gonzo and the other Muppets stare into space, he wonders why they asked him to build a jocose.
That’s it for this movie. I plan to review the two Muppet Christmas movies I have at some point. Look forward to them in the future, provided that they get made like I’m wanting to. I don’t plan to do any other Muppet movies or specials that aren’t Christmas related at this point in time.
So what can I say about this movie? Well, as stated in the review, parts of this are cliché. You see this a lot in kid’s movies where a character longs for something more, but the journey just makes him realize that he’s already home all along. It is similar to what happens in most romantic comedies. I do think that this movie is good and there’s nothing wrong about this. With not much else to say about this movie, I will end the review here. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
