It is time that I finally get
to reviewing the fifth season of this show. I don’t think that there is much to
say in this introduction outside of hoping that I’ll have time to write all I
need to while also not to the point of abandoning important things in life.
I’ll wish for the best while hoping that I can keep up with the schedule of
what I like to keep doing with this and other blogs. Let’s get to the review.
Season 5 overview: It starts
with Alicia and Cary starting a new firm or wanting to. First, it is a secret
from the others in the firm, but they learn of this before we get far in the
season. Because of this, Diane is not on Illinois Supreme Court like the end of
the last season suggested. Throughout the season, there are various conflicting
firm events between Alicia’s new firm and Diane’s firm. Will’s death was a
major event that happened this season. He was the first of the major characters
to leave the show.
How this season was different
than others: For one, part of this season was the first to ever not have Will
as a major character in it. We saw more good from Cary than before. The long
time friends of the firm had major issues with each other when Alicia split
from them. It was nice and kind of interesting to see them on opposite sides
for a while.
What made it good: Some of the
best moments from the show’s history were in this season. Will’s death was a
shocking moment that most people didn’t see coming, even while this mystery,
shocking event was promoted as the most shocking moment in the show’s history.
Did anyone see that coming? The episode that first brought the split between
firms to all of the character’s view, Hitting the Fan, might have been the best
episode of the whole entire series.
What made it bad: Some of what
we liked about the show was now gone. For instance, the goodness with the two
firms that had endured largely throughout all the seasons thus far was largely
undone for most of the season. The break between firms was kind of drug out too
long in the story arcs this season. Will’s departure was upsetting and he was
missed throughout the rest of the season. The plot of Diane possibly being on
the Illinois Supreme Court was abandoned in favor of other drama.
More thoughts: In my mind,
this was hands down, the best season of the show. Will may be missed, but we
got lots of great things in his stead. Some of the best episodes and moments of
the show came from this season in question. I would rank it highest among the
seasons.
Those are my thoughts on the
fifth season of The Good Wife. If all went according to plan, then you will see
the next update of this blog tomorrow when I get to my next cast update. I plan
to see you then. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.
